Our take 11 pros — the 90g template a decade of palm grip learned on
Before ergonomic mouse was a category, there was the EC. ZOWIE's EC2-B is the 2017 refresh that kept the shape sacred and swapped the engine to the PMW3360 — the first sensor a generation of Counter-Strike players stopped thinking about. Eleven wired holdouts still main it in our database, and ZOWIE's own spec page settles the weight argument: 90 grams, cable excluded.
The B series changed what nothing else in the gaming-mouse world survives changing: nothing. Same non-symmetrical slope, same raised front for the fourth and fifth fingers, same concave right flank, same middle hump that made the EC the most copied ergonomic silhouette in FPS. Inside, the 3310 gave way to the 3360 with resolution set to four steps — 400/800/1600/3200 — because ZOWIE's product design assumes that is where competitive humans live, plus a 16-step scroll wheel and a body switch for 125/500/1000Hz report rate. No software exists for this mouse; no app will ever exist. It is plug-and-play in the LAN-event sense: swap PCs in ninety seconds and your settings are physically inside the mouse. The switches run Huano-heavy by most teardown accounts, with batch variation; the matte black standard finish is famous for collecting skin oil and famouser for the shape you'll never want to leave. Note the family tree for shopping: EC2 is the wired B edition; EC2-CW and EC2-DW are the modern wireless and 4K-wireless versions of the same shell.
The short version: the ur-ergonomic. In 2026 the 3360 and the cable are genuine anachronisms — and the shape underneath them is the source code of every modern palm-shelf mouse, ZOWIE's own EC2-DW included. Buy it because the wiring will outlive you, not because the spec fits.
Officially discontinued — units are stock and secondary market; no firmware path, and the 2m rubber cable has no love in a bungee world.
The community's '87g' figure is wrong: ZOWIE's spec table prints 90g for EC2 (M) and 97g for EC1 (L) — our library row was corrected against the official page.
Who it's for
- Palm-dominant grippers raised on the EC slope and unwilling to relearn.
- Driverless absolutists: physical switches for DPI and polling, zero software ever.
- LAN-event pragmatists — plug into any PC, play in any venue.
- Wired reliability buyers: no battery, no pairing, no dongle loss.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who drags cables — the CW/DW exist for a reason.
- Spec-sheet shoppers: 3360-tier silicon with no 4K/8K path.
- Fingertip players — the EC rear is palm architecture.
Alternatives to consider
Each is a real pick, not filler — with one concrete reason to choose it over this mouse.
The same philosophy with a modern shell, 30 fewer grams and the 4K receiver.
EC2-DW →The shape exactly as you remember it, minus the cable.
EC2-CW →The EC designer's own sequel — same lineage, modern internals, 30g lighter.
E1 Wireless →More from ZOWIE
FAQ
Is the EC2-B 87 or 90 grams?
90 — ZOWIE's own spec table prints EC2 (M) weight: 90g without cable (EC1-B: 97g). The 87g circulating in community databases is a measurement artifact; we corrected ours on 2026-09-08 (library row flagged, not rewritten).
EC2 vs EC2-B — what changed?
The engine. EC-A ran the older 3310; the B series moved to the flawless-tier PMW3360 with a new scroll wheel and firmer side buttons — same shape, same weight. That restraint is why A-generation mains migrated with zero relearning.
Are 3360 and 3200 DPI still usable in 2026?
Yes — the 3360 was the first sensor you could stop thinking about, and every pro in our database runs 400-3200 DPI inside its window. What you give up vs 2026 flagships is wireless and 4K+, not tracking quality.
Should I buy EC2-B or the EC2-CW/DW today?
The CW/DW are the same shape wireless (DW adds 4K). Buy the wired B when: you want zero battery thoughts, zero pairing — or you are a left-field purist. Buy CW/DW when cable drag is your enemy. 11 pros in our database still main wired EC2.
What makes EC coatings divisive?
The standard matte EC finish picks up skin oil fast (shiny patches over months); the white/glossy EC2-B goes the other way. ZOWIE won't chase grip-coat trends — a purist call: the shape is the product, everything else is consumable. Many owners live in grip tape.
